The halophyte domestication project is currently engaged in the genomic sequencing and transcriptional characterization of several species f Salicornia, a halophytic plant. We are using high-throughput sequencing technologies to decipher the whole genome and to characterize the genes involved in adaptation of Salicornia, a promising halophyte. We are particularly interested in using the transcriptomic data to understand the genetic basis for salt stress adaptation and to identify traits that can be regulated to accelerate domestication using precise, site-specific molecular modifications with TALE nucleases.
